About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available
The KUMON Center at ISB (International School Basel) provides a nurturing and structured environment for students to enhance their skills in Math and English. Located conveniently within the ISB Aesch campus, the center is a collaborative initiative aimed at fostering academic growth among ISB students while also welcoming learners from the broader community.

Through the KUMON Method, students engage in individualized learning plans tailored to their specific abilities and progress. This proven approach emphasizes self-learning, enabling students to develop essential skills like focus, persistence, and confidence. The program is flexible, with sessions offered three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—giving families the option to choose attendance frequency based on their schedules.

Beyond classroom sessions, students are assigned daily worksheets to practice at home, ensuring consistent progress. Marked assignments are promptly returned for feedback and correction, reinforcing mastery and self-improvement.

The center also fosters a sense of achievement through annual award ceremonies, where students are recognized for their dedication and milestones. Additionally, the program operates on a quarterly structure, allowing for seamless continuity throughout the academic year.

With experienced instructors and a supportive learning atmosphere, KUMON@ISB empowers students to excel academically and build a strong foundation for lifelong success.

About the Instructor

Hello, my name is Marzio Lo Giudice and I am the head of the KUMON Learning Center Basel-Gundeli and KUMON@ISB.

Education has been a fundamental part of my own life, both as a child and as an adult, and I want to help children and students build their own strong foundations in mathematics and English.

As math was my passion, I worked for many years for large IT companies and developed software solutions in the field of applied cryptography (where prime numbers play a key role). Later I led my career in business and management consulting and held various positions (Business Analyst, Project Manager, Key Account, Operations Director) for consulting companies in the telecommunications and pharmaceutical industries.

In recent years, I have felt an increasing desire to give back to society some of what it had given me. I am a husband and father of a daughter. When she started her own learning path with KUMON and I saw the change in her confidence and mathematical skills, I realized that this would be my path.

KUMON enables children to learn and progress independently, based on their own ability, not on their age or school class. Learning subjects they don't know at school creates self-confidence and provides a good preparation for the challenging homework in secondary school and the challenges of the Matura exam.

If you would like to offer your child the best opportunities in life, you are welcome to contact me by e-mail or telephone. I look forward to answering all your questions and making an appointment with you for a placement test.

Popular Questions

KUMON offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, KUMON empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each KUMON student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the KUMON International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. KUMON welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
Students can start learning with KUMON from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; KUMON helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, KUMON will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
As a global programme, KUMON does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the KUMON Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. KUMON operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
KUMON is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each KUMON Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
