KUMON is more than just tutoring.

The KUMON method for English and mathematics enables your child to develop his or her abilities to the full. For each child, a diagnostic test is used to determine the current learning status. Based on the individual starting point determined in this way, we continue to work with your child at his own pace and reach the current teaching level as soon as possible. Once the school subject level has been reached, we work with the child to continue learning in good quality above the school subject level.

The advantages of the KUMON method at a glance:
  •     Individual counselling and learning status recording
  •     Development and strengthening of concentration, endurance and self-confidence
  •     Deepening the basics and closing knowledge gaps
  •     Achievement of sustainable learning success, confidence and joy in learning
  •     Experience of stress-free learning even over the current school subject matter
  •     Development into self-learners with well-developed professional and interdisciplinary competences
  •     Achievement of higher educational goals

About learning in itself:
As a teacher and long-time KUMON instructor, I enjoy helping the children to develop a positive learning biography. I am happy for every child who succeeds in experiencing their learning process as something of their own, unique and exciting. I am happy to help your child understand that current learning is an act of the future: Why am I learning and for what? What do I want to become when I grow up and how can I achieve this? How do I have to learn so that I can transcend my limits and grow beyond myself? When do I enjoy learning and how can I increase the joy of learning?

If such questions are consistently included in the learning process, children with special learning topics (such as ADS, ADHS, LRS, dyslexia, dyscalculia, ASS or SES) can also gain a foothold in personal learning, reconcile themselves with their own weaknesses and recognise their personal strengths, develop them and use them for further learning! The KUMON method is very suitable for highly gifted children because the highly gifted child moves forward at its own pace and does not have to wait for other children. Thus this child also comes into learning zones where it experiences its own limits and works to overcome them by developing stamina and perseverance and thus achieving the goals it has set itself by its own efforts. Of course, the KUMON method is also suitable for adults! They also expand their knowledge, skills and abilities and can thus advance to higher levels. I can warmly recommend the KUMON method to seniors who would like to train their mental fitness! To progress daily in English and mathematics at the same time nourishes the brain in the best possible way. This is simply good!

How long does the stay in the learning centre last?
If only one subject is taken, the child remains in the learning centre for about 30-40 minutes. For two subjects, the stay in the learning centre lasts about 45-60 minutes.

How long does the homework take?
For only 1 subject, about 20-30 minutes are needed daily. For 2 subjects about 40-45 minutes are needed daily. The duration of a learning unit, however, depends entirely on each individual and the level of the respective child. In addition, the duration of daily learning can be adjusted at any time. This is particularly important for young children and children who study two subjects. It is very important that no child is burdened with too much homework. That would be counterproductive.

The costs at a glance:
  • The monthly fee for the support of your child amounts to Fr. 250 (for 1-2 subjects) *
  • Each additional child of the same family costs Fr. 100 (mathematics or English).
  • Each additional child of the same family costs Fr. 150 (mathematics and English).
  • *The one-time registration fee is Fr. 60 per child and subject.

Please note the following points:
During the opening hours the learning centre is in full swing, so that we cannot answer any questions. Send us an e-mail with your questions and concerns and we will get back to you.

About the Instructor

Patricia Berger - KUMON Instructor Hausen am Ablis
I am a trained primary school teacher, have been running my KUMON learning centre since February 2001 and have been a lecturer at the College of Curative Education (HfH, Zurich) since 2003. My many years of professional activity (school, HfH and KUMON Learning Centre) have enriched and supplemented my teaching and learning experience at all ages. I am convinced that every person can overcome his limits with perseverance, shift them and broaden his horizon. Learning never stops! That's why it's important to experience as a child how you can live out your personal potential.  I have an adult daughter who studies educational science and art history. When she was a KUMON child herself, she occasionally moaned loudly about these additional homework assignments, but at the same time, to be fair, she kept saying: "I do moan, but I know that it helps me to increase my ability to learn. That's why I do it anyway."

Popular Questions

KUMON offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, KUMON empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each KUMON student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the KUMON International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. KUMON welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.
Students can start learning with KUMON from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; KUMON helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, KUMON will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
As a global programme, KUMON does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the KUMON Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. KUMON operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
KUMON is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each KUMON Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
